.emmys2012 best looks.

The Emmys came and went with a blur of big dresses, heartfelt speeches and admittedly clever commentary from Jimmy Kimmel. From the sequins to the dramatic trains to my “honorary mention” below, read on for my favorite looks from the Emmy Awards 2012.

This gown is breath-taking. While certainly a bit mermaid-esque it remains classic and spectacular. I am in love with Julianne Hough in this Georges Hobeika dress.

Sarah Hyland’s Marchesa look was the perfect gown to wear while accepting Emmy Awards – which Modern Family did extensively! She looks like a modern Greek goddess and her soft styling hits the mark.

Padma Lakshmi’s tangerine Monique Lhuillier frock looked stunning with her skin. The gown showed off her amazing body which she paired perfectly with drop earrings and loose waves.

One of my two top favorite looks of the night. Edie Falco is simply flawless in this Stella McCartney gown. She is so toned and tan the cut-outs look made for her fit bod. Though the metal belt was most likely scorching on the 125 degree red carpet!

I loved January Jones’ somewhat gothic Zac Posen dress, though not all critics felt the same. The sharp lines on the train are remarkable, but she completely lost me on the hair and make up.

Emily VanCamp blew my mind in this billowy J. Mendel number. The diamond accessories, especially the bow bracelet, were absolutely stunning. The whole look is soft and romantic.

Julianne Moore’s look was slammed by some but I love this canary yellow complimenting her red hair. It was her first Emmy attendance, and she won for her role in Game Change (well deserved!) I thought she looked smashing. But with all the celebs and reporters bemoaning the heat, I can’t imagine Julianne was very comfortable in her Raf Simons gown.

I am normally hesitant with a high-low dress, but this Monique Lhuillier number has a gradual length change so it isn’t utterly consuming. I think Ginnifer Goodwin looks fantastic in these Louboutin ankle-strap sandals; they look made for this gown without being too matchy. Ginnifer’s pixie cut showed off her earrings and let the dress shine.

Kristen Wiig joked in a red carpet interview this evening that she told her stylist she wanted to look “ghost-like” for the Emmys, and this is what they came up with. In actuality this Balenciaga dress is beautiful with a vintage flair. I especially love her accessories including nude pumps, a matching clutch and medium-long necklace. Bravo, Kristen.

And finally, my honorable mention: Rico Rodriguez. This adorable tween played a big part in the awards show by appearing in multiple clips with his mom before and after commercial breaks. He obviously loves his Modern Family cast mates and always remains polite and kind. I’m crazy about this kid! He looked adorbz in his thick-framed glasses, wing tip shoes and tux. But the best part? His bow tie from co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s new line Tie The Knot, where all proceeds of the bow tie collection go towards the fight for marriage equality.
